Practical work and doctoral studies: We make it possible! Our doctoral positions allow you to get involved in industrial and publicly funded projects while still having enough time to work on your PhD thesis. You have no teaching obligations and can draw on the results of bachelor's and master's theses that you supervise.

During your three-year doctoral program, you will gain practical experience and combine scientific work with economic issues. You can publish your findings in renowned journals or present them at conferences.

Cooperation with UDE

Thanks to our close cooperation with the University of Duisburg-Essen, you will receive intensive supervision and support from doctoral advisors, writing coaches, and regular feedback sessions. All facilities and laboratories are available to you during your doctoral studies.

Put your theoretical knowledge into practice: during an internship lasting at least six weeks, you will gain insight into current research projects and have the opportunity to contribute your ideas.

We also offer mandatory internships for technical training programs and pre-internships for orientation purposes. Remuneration depends on the type and duration of the internship, and you can start at any time.

Apprenticeship

Start your apprenticeship as an IT specialist for system integration at Fraunhofer IMS!

In our IT apprenticeship, IT infrastructure will become your area of expertise. On your way to becoming an IT professional, you will deal with various operating systems, hardware/software, network technologies, and much more.

The practical training is supplemented by several weeks of full-time theory blocks.

  • We only accept online applications. You will find an »Apply« button on every job advertisement. Clicking on this button will take you directly to our applicant management system, where you can upload your documents.

  • In order to avoid unnecessary delays in the application process, please send us your complete application documents so that we can get a comprehensive picture of you. This includes a cover letter, resume, academic transcripts with a list of subjects and grades, and work/internship/training certificates. Your work certificates are relevant for your classification in the TVöD Bund (collective agreement for civil servants). If you are currently still studying, please submit your current transcript of records and certificate of enrollment. Applicants from non-EU countries should also upload a copy of their current residence permit.

  • To simplify the processing of your application, please upload your files in Word or PDF format only to our online application system.

    We recommend combining similar documents (e.g., certificates/transcripts or references) into a single PDF file. The maximum size of each file must not exceed 50 MB.

  • Make sure that you submit your complete application documents and that they are up to date. If you are submitting scanned documents, ensure that they are legible.

  • Immediately after submitting your application, you will receive an automatic confirmation of submission. Please check your spam folder if you have not received an email. We will then review your documents manually and request any additional documents if necessary. You will usually receive a response within a few days. If your application is successful, you will be invited to an initial interview, either online or on site. Depending on the position, we will get to know each other in up to two interviews. For non-student positions, at least one interview will take place at our institute so that you can get an impression of our working environment.

  • We always publish our specific staffing requirements directly on our job board. This means you can find the latest vacancies there at any time. For students, we also offer the option of submitting a speculative application if there are no suitable positions advertised. Please use the appropriate unsolicited application positions (internship, thesis, student assistant) and make sure to specify in your cover letter the research topics you would like to support us with.

  • It is generally possible to apply for several positions at the same time, provided that they match your qualifications.

  • There is no general application deadline for our advertised positions. However, for internships or theses, you should allow for a lead time of approximately two to three months.
