TimestampsAI - a faster and data-reduced solution for high-resolution LiDAR systems@embedded world 2022

Fraunhofer IMS@embedded world 2022, from 21 to 23 June, Nuremberg Exhibition Centre

The Fraunhofer-Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems IMS in Duisburg shows TimestampsAI, a faster and data-reduced solution for high-resolution LiDAR systems

The business unit Mobility of the Fraunhofer-Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems IMS presents its latest development TimestampsAI for environment recognition at the »embedded world 2022« in Nuremberg from 21 to 23 June.

TimestampsAI provides a faster and data-reduced solution for high-resolution LiDAR systems to capture complex scenes in 3D in any environment.

Faster recognition of complex 3D scenes in any environment

In factory automation and autonomous driving applications, complex scenes are required to be precisely captured with 3D sensors. Therein, high-resolution LiDAR systems are one promising solution. Such LiDAR systems generate a large amount of data, bringing great challenges to data transmission and processing on a resource-constrained embedded system. Distance determination method TimestampsAI developed in the Fraunhofer’s Lab bypasses data-driven problems caused by the generation of statistical histograms.

A point-wise quality information, given in addition to the resulting point-cloud allows confident decision making of automated system. With the compact feature extraction and machine learning algorithms directly based on LiDAR

timestamps, future LiDAR systems could be more efficient, effective, and robust.

Visit the Fraunhofer-Joint Booth in Hall 4-422 and find out about the many possible applications of TimestampsAI in environment recognition!
