RISC-V-based 32-Bit-processor AIRISC@embedded world 2022
Fraunhofer IMS@embedded world 2022, from 21 to 23 June, Nuremberg Exhibition Centre.
The Fraunhofer-Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems IMS in Duisburg presents RISC-V-based 32-Bit-processor AIRISC
The Smart Sensor Systems core competence and the unit Industry of the Fraunhofer-Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems IMS will present the AIRISC-processor from June 21 to 23. It is able to evaluate sensor data up to 80% faster. Since January 2022, the RISC-V processor for embedded and sensor applications is available as a free download on GitHub in its base variant.
AIRISC RISC-V processor speeds up sensor data analysis by 80 percent
It is beneficial for Machine Learning (ML) to run locally on IoT devices to improve security, power consumption and to reduce latency for real-time processing. While ML algorithms are computationally intensive and embedded systems have limited resources, custom microprocessors are needed to deliver sufficient performance.
This is where AIRISC comes into play. The RISC-V-based 32-bit processor AIRISC now features instruction set extensions and coprocessors for efficient neural network computation. With the accelerators, modern AI algorithms also work on energy-critical hardware, such as energy-autonomous sensor systems. An example from medicine shows the performance of AIRISC: For a medical application to detect atrial fibrillation in ECG data, it achieved a speed advantage of over 80% in evaluation with only 10% higher area and power requirements.
Visit the Fraunhofer-Joint Booth in Hall 4-422 and find out about the many possible applications of AIRISC!
