How the Fraunhofer IMS in Duisburg is getting applications for Industry 4.0 off the ground
Scientists and entrepreneurs showed how companies can benefit from application-oriented research at Fraunhofer in tandem presentations at the "IHK meets Fraunhofer" event at the Fraunhofer inHaus Center in Duisburg. The series of events, to which the chambers of industry and commerce of North Rhine-Westphalia issue annual invitations, is intended to pave the way for entrepreneurs to meet research partners. This year's meeting focused on the topic of "Sensors and Automation".
Which machine consumes how much electricity? Is that efficient? These are the questions addressed by a project of innogy SE and Fraunhofer IMS. Together, they have developed a retrofittable power flow analysis system that companies can use to analyze and optimize their energy management. The system makes it possible to break down total power consumption to individual devices and measure consumption at just one point. Visualization of the measured values enables optimization of a company's energy balance and is suitable for monitoring motors and devices.
In his welcoming address, IHK President Burkhard Landers appealed to science and business to work closely together, because only through interaction could outstanding innovations of global significance be created. "We - the IHKs in NRW - see ourselves as an important network partner and mediator between research institutions and companies in NRW. Our experts, the innovation and technology consultants, support science and industry in finding the right partner for their respective projects in order to implement important innovation projects. ", says Landers.
Dr. Hans-Otto Feldhütter, Director of Business Models at the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, emphasized that knowledge and technology transfer is also a fundamental mission of the Fraunhofer Institutes. "Contract research, spin-offs and knowledge transfer strengthen the innovative power of companies and this also promotes regional economic development," Feldhütter said.
