For the realization of transponder systems there is a broad infrastructure, various tools for the hardware/software and system development available in the field of Wireless and Transponder Systems at Fraunhofer IMS.

Infrastructure for business model/product requirement development
Using workshops for product requirements and for business model development we support our customers in the business unit Wireless and Transponder Systems in the direction of the innovation process. For the realization of the workshops there are various materials available for idea generation (e.g. idea cards), elaboration of the product requirements (e.g. value proposition design) and the business models (e.g. business model canvas).The extensive technical building equipment with conference and meeting rooms of different sizes allow for the realization of innovation workshops with different attendance figures.
Infrastructure for electronics and system development
For the development of hardware and software there are fully equipped laboratories and a HF measuring chamber available in the business unit Wireless and Transponder Systems. For the circuit board design the tool Altium Designer® is used at Fraunhofer IMS. With this tool, circuit diagrams and layout are developed which are later adapted to the housing guidelines using 3D simulations. The simulation of electromagnetic fields for the design and the adaption of antennas or sensor structures are carried out with the software CST Microwave Studio.
For the quick evaluation of the circuit in the laboratory there are both a cutting plotter and a rework station available. Measurements in the HF range can be taken in the in-house HF measuring chamber. There is also the possibility to carry out ESD examinations on an in-house ESD measuring station. In the software area, there are mostly freely available compilers (GCC) employed that are complemented by the steadily growing software library AIfES for the development of self-learning systems.
Infrastructure for system evaluation
The living lab in the Fraunhofer-inHaus-Center allows for the integration of development results in a realistic application environment and to test and evaluate them there. In a completely furnished double housing unit there are different infrastructures available for the evaluation of smart home components in private surroundings (e.g. bus systems, building technology). For the examination of medical systems there is a separate area available in a completely furnished “hospital” from the reception area, over doctor’s and patient rooms up to the surgery room. The business unit Wireless and Transponder Systems uses these resources intensely and develops them further.
