In the business unit Biohybrid Systems we offer extensive services for your project and support you in all phases of the technology development from the first concept design up to the successful realization into a product. The development of a biosensor system begins with the selection of an appropriate sensor principle. Depending on the application, different sensor principles can be realized taking both the technical requirements e.g. specificity, sensitivity, speed, dynamic range, multiplex degree) and the economic requirements (e.g. development and production costs) into consideration. In the business unit Biohybrid Systems we offer the development of both morker-free (e.g. electrochemical impedance, mass-sensitive MEMS) and marker-based sensors (e.g. optical fluorescence, chemoluminescence). For the signal readout of the biosensors Fraunhofer IMS can rely on long-standing know-how in the area of electronic circuits, including the design of application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) and wireless communication systems. The bundling of know-how of different business units allows for the realization of miniaturized biosensors that we can integrate into compact, portable Point-of-Care devices for you. These are particularly distinguished by the user-friendly operation. With just a few work steps it is possible to analyze biological samples and to test them, for example, for specific pathogens. Analysis time and costs can therefore be significantly reduced, because the samples don’t need to be sent to a special laboratory. A service performance that we offer in the business unit Biohybrid Systems is an extensive characterization of the developed biosensors in the in-house bio lab. For this purpose we have state-of-the-art analysis devices available (Infrastructure & Tools). For the implementation of your biosensor system we rely on long-standing experiences from BMBF and EU-supported development projects.
