Profile of the Institute
Fraunhofer Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems
The Fraunhofer IMS exists as an independent institute of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft since midyear 1984. In 1987, the staff moved into the specially constructed institute building that, according to rising requirements, was constructional extended in the years 1992, 2001 and 2005. The formation and development were carried out by the institute director of long duration Prof. Dr. Günter Zimmer. Since January 1st 2006, Prof. Dr. Anton Grabmaier has been in charge of our institute.
In accordance with the general principle of the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft the Fraunhofer IMS carries out research, development and pilot fabrication of microelectronic solutions for industrial and public clients. Our second source of income consists of customers from the semiconductor industry.
Our Core Business
The Fraunhofer IMS intensely works on the topic of microelectronics and aligns the work with the requirements of our customers and partners. During our contract works we focus on strong, efficient and marketable developments. To tie our know-how adequately we have united our competencies in 8 business units.
The core areas of profit are presently the business units “ASICs” and “Devices & Technology”. We have planned to extend and develop the business units which have been participating subproportional in sales until now. In the process, the business should increase towards more complex system integration and applications.
Quality pays off
The Fraunhofer IMS is certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001 since 1995.
Since autumn 2001 the Fraunhofer IMS is certified according to DIN EN ISO: 2000.
The certificate is valid for research, development, production and distribution of microelectronic circuits, electronic systems, microsystems and sensors as well as consulting in these fields.
Furthermore, the CMOS line is certified according to ISO/TS 16949 since 2006.
